Additional Information
If you are interested in learning more about Tolkien's Middle-Earth and the stories from the Silmarillion, I recommend these web sites. These are just a few of the great Tolkien resources available on the web.
- Middle-Earth Tours
The Middle-Earth Tours site contains great information and pictures from the different timeframes of Middle-Earth. The content is ordered around different "tours": tours of places like Rivendell or Orthanc, peoples like Wizards or the Nazgul, and some specialty tours like the journey of Galadriel or the Anduin River cruise. The events of the Silmarillion are discussed in the Prequel Tours.
- A Silmarillion Chronology
This site contains a chronology of the events of the Silmarillion. It is illustrated with some good pictures and provides some good information about the dates of events and the methods of reckoning time in Middle-Earth. It also some other kinds of information: information and illustrations of various heraldic devices Tolkien created, genealogical information of men and elves (including family trees, such as the royal house of the Noldor), and even hobbit recipes.
- Encyclopedia of Arda
The Encyclopedia of Arda is a "reference guide to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien." It contains individual entries, arranged alphabetically, for names and places in Middle-Earth. Here are direct links to some of the sample entries:
